Simple to make, perfect for preparing ahead and so delicious, the kids will think they are drinking a milkshake for breakfast. Fresh fruit, Greek yogurt and milk make this smoothie recipe a filling and nutritious morning option.
Sometimes kids just don’t want to eat in the morning, hey I get that, I have mornings like that too. As a parent, we can’t just let them head out to school with an empty tummy, no matter how much they refuse to eat. Guess what? You don’t have to.
When you are busy or the kids are not in the mood for eggs, this protein packed smoothie will do just fine. They are even great as a make a head breakfast. Just whip up a batch of smoothies the night before, pour them into small mason jars, Tighten the lids and store in the fridge over night and voila! Breakfast is ready when the kids are.
Just so you know, a strawberry smoothie can replace breakfast or any meal, in fact. By using Greek yogurt and milk, you have plenty of protein and calcium to feed the kids body. Adding the bananas and strawberries, gives this beverage a punch of vitamines and minerals. So there’s no need to worry if smoothies are a complete meal. It is.
Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:
- Milk (or dairy free alternative).
- Strawberries (frozen works best).
- Banana slices (frozen works best).
- Greek yogurt.
1. Put all the ingredients into a blender or food processor.
2. Blend until smooth and frothy.
3. Pour into two small glasses and serve.
Tips: Freezing the fruit before hand ensures that the smoothies are thick and cold. If you rather, you can add ice instead, but I find freezing fruit simple enough to do. You can interchange a variety of ingredients making whole new flavours every time. Be creative and get the kids involved with picking out their favorite fruits.
